Switch Energy Lab curricula is brought to you by our nonprofit partner the National Energy Education Development Project (NEED.org). Used in conjunction with the Switch Energy Lab series, NEED curriculum facilitates hands-on, problem-based learning in which students explore opportunities and challenges for energy resources.
NEED has correlated all of their materials to The Common Core State Standards for English/Language Arts and Mathematics, as well as each state’s individual science standards.
Flip things around to allow more in-class time for exploration, reinforcement, and discussion.
For homework, students watch selected Switch Energy Lab videos and read companion factsheets to gain a fundamental understanding of an energy issue or resource. In the following class period, teachers facilitate an activity designed to promote critical thinking, discussion, and STEM extension of the topic.
*See below for factsheets, infobooks and activity guides for each series section.
Cover more content, and develop leadership skills within your classroom, by turning your students into teachers.
Break students into groups and assign each a Switch Energy Lab video series to watch. Using the video series as a basis for research, each group becomes the expert on their topic and presents it to the class. Students can use various media such as display boards, creating their own video, a brochure, webpage, PowerPoint, etc.
Show Switch Energy Lab videos in class as they tie in with existing curricula plans. Each video is between 2 and 3 minutes long; the perfect addition to any lesson on energy!
